Vincent Perronet Sells - 19th Century Watercolour, Cityscape Scene of Caen
DescriptionA charming watercolour with body color details and gum arabic applied to the surface. Depicts a traditional 19th century scene from French city Caen and its cathedral. Inscription to the lower right corner possibly reads 'Ch. Caen', referring to the citie's castle. Laid down to backing paper and presented in a card mount. Signed. On wove.
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and foxing. There is also craquelure present mainly to the bottom right quadrant of the painting, as shown in photos. There is a closed tear along the right margin, which is only visible upon close inspection. Age toning and foxing to the mount, with wear to the bottom right corner and along the top edge of the card mount.
