An accomplished watercolour painting by the British artist Tom Clough. The scene depicts an atmospheric view of a cottage and figure on a wooden bridge. Signed to the lower right-hand corner. Well-presented in a wash line card mount and in a speckled, contemporary gilt-effect frame. On watercolour paper.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and very minor foxing. Small marks to the mount and slight scuffing to the frame.

Artist Biography
Tom Clough (1867-1943) was a painter, born in Bolton, Lancashire. He trained as a lithographic printer before turning to painting around 1890. He traveled widely, painting in Wales, South West England, Italy, and Concarneau in France. He later lived in Betws-y-Coed, North Wales. An elected member of the RCamA, he also showed at the Baillie Gallery, RCamA, RA, ROI, RI, Manchester City Art Gallery, RBA, and Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. Bolton Art Gallery house a large collection of his work together with letters and articles relating to his life. His son, Thomas Collingwood Clough, was also an artist and they are sometimes confused. Clough Snr. died in Llandudno, Conway, Wales.
