A fine Edwardian watercolour showing a finely dressed gentleman reading to a group of girls in an idyllic meadow. The artist has signed to the lower right corner and the painting has been presented in a contemporary gilt frame with layered wash line mount. there is a label at the reverse with the title and artist's name. On paper.

Artist Biography

Illustrator and designer born in Shoreditch, London. As a young man in 1901 the national census gives his occupation as a glass engraver and ten years later he is recorded as an Art Editor. He studied at the Royal College of Art during the last decade of the 19th century and later illustrated many books. His death was recorded in Fulham. His wife Emily Overnell was also an illustrator. there is no record of T. J. Overnell having exhibited his work.
