Description
Fine late 19th century genre painting depicting a beautiful young women sat on rocks with a sheaf of wheat resting by her side. Pelham depicts the women in a full length skirt, pale pink corset and oversized shirt, finished with a red neckerchief and purple head scarf. Signed lower right. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
The finishing layer of varnish has deteriorated and yellowed. Minor surface craquelure. Some rubbing to paint from previous frame. Inspection under UV light reveals minor overpainting to the background.

A Victorian genre painter, Pelham is best known for his paintings of beautiful young women. He exhibited works at the Royal Academy, British Institute, and Royal Society of British Artists.
