Artist Biography
Thomas Herbert Victor (1894-1980) was a painter of watercolours depicting coastal scenes in Cornwall. He studied briefly at Penzance School of Art but turned down a scholarship to the Slade School preferring to stay in his native Cornwall. In fact it is said that Victor never ventured further than Truro and lived his entire life in Mousehole.
His principal subject matter was in fishing villages, harbours and winding streets of his immediate environs. There is no record of his having exhibited his work although several of his paintings have been produced as postcards. Victor’s work appears regularly at auction and his very collectable even though he sometimes used the pseudonym ‘W. Sands’. There is an example of his work in the Penlee House Museum, Penzance.
