Description
A charming oil study depicting the legend artist Cimabue meeting a young Giotto as a Shepherd's son drawing sheep onto rocks. According to Vasari in Lives of the Artists, Cimabue was so impressed with the Giotto that he invited him back to Florence to become his apprentice.
Unsigned. The story of Cimabue and Giotto is inscribed in Italian to the reverse.
On canvas.Condition
There is some craquelure and some light surface marks. There is some wear to the frame.
