Tadeusz Was (1912-2005) - Original 1995 Mixed Media. A mixed media head study of a woman, with materials including oil, acrylic and wash used, including areas of thick impasto paint. Signed and dated to the lower right, in a cream wash line mount and silvered frame. Tadeusz Was a Polish born artist and studied in Krakow, originally painting murals and stained glass. He served in the armed forces, escaping from a POW camp and then serving in Italy until the end of WWII. After this he carried on with his studies in Rome, winning the Silver Medal at the International Art Show in 1946. After leaving the armed forces he was located in England, where he carried on his art work and studying, also teaching art at Crewe College of Art. His work has been exhibited widely and is well sought after; he has shown at Warrington Art Gallery, Edinburgh, Manchester's Art House, the Blythe Gallery, the Portico Gallery and the Weaverham Gallery, Cheshire. A major solo show of his work was organised at the Portico Gallery just after his death in 2005. His work is incredibly popular to this day. Signed and dated. On wove. Some surface dirt and minor areas of wear to the frame, thunderbugs between the glass and mount. In general appearance is good.
