A wonderful watercolour from the early 20th Century showing a group of smartly dressed men and women, gathered a sculpture exhibition. One woman reads from a book to the others and a further couple can be seen deep in discussion behind the main group. The painting oozes the style and colour of the Bloomsbury group who were at the height of their notoriety and output at this time. The frieze-like composition and economic use of paint and form share similarities with the work of Duncan Grant (one of the Bloomsbury Groups most prolific artists).
The artist has signed to the lower right and the painting has been presented in a fine early 20th Century oak frame with gilt slip and card mount.
On wove.The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. The frame has some minor splitting at the inner corners.
