A very fine Chinese School portrait of a female courtier, beautifully executed in watercolour with further details carefully picked out in gouache. The portrait was acquired by Sulis Fine Art as a pair, with the companion portrait also listed for sale on our website. The 19th century work has been beautifully housed in an antique rosewood frame with internal slip and glazing.
On pith paper.

Condition

Several fine splits and holes visible in the pith paper. The picture frame and glazing offers some protection to the fragile paper. Some discolouration and staining to the substrate due to fluctuations in light and humidity. Visible rippling to the pith paper. Light dirtying to the glazing.
