Painter, born in London he first studied at Heatherley's intending to become a commercial artist. For some time following World War I he made a successful living as a Fleet Street artist. During World War II he continued his sketching and recorded many happenings in the Middle East. He began to sell regularly after the war and continued to travel across Europe and the Middle East. He showed for many years at the RI, RBA and SGA. He was perhaps best known for his delightful pen and ink sketches of London and a one-person show of these was held at the Camden Arts Centre in 1986. He served on the committee of the Hampstead Artists’ Council for years. Sixty or so years after his Fleet Street days, one of his advertisements for Du Maurier cigarettes was purchased by the V&A. His work is also represented in the collections of the Ben Uri, Burgh House, Hampstead and the NPG where he has several portraits including those of Sir Basil Spence and Sir Nikolaus Pevsner.
