Susan Macarthur was born in East Sussex and now lives in Gloucestershire. Macarthur initially studied Fine Art, primarily painting, drawing and sculpting. Towards the latter part of her education at Cal State Long Beach she was introduced to textiles and on returning to England has gone on to experiment with different techniques and materials to portray the human form.
Macarthur states ‘I come from a background of life drawing/painting and have always been drawn to the drama of the human form. My work is a combination of painting together with fabric, paper, thread and paints. I like the unpredictable occurrences that can arise with these materials and feel there is a strong crossover between the drawn line and a line of thread. Texture plays a large role in my work – in fact I think it is probably the most important element for me'.
Susan shows her work through galleries, exhibitions and art fairs and is also a Fellow of the Society of Designer Craftsmen.
