A child cries as she is illuminated by candlelight. Similar to Bragolin's other portraits of crying children, this artwork has been finished to a very high level of detail. Due to his subject matter and detailed style, Bragolin's style is always immediately recognizable, and while this artwork isn't by his hand, it still holds remarkable similarities to his work.
Signed indistinctly. The artwork is also well presented in an ornately molded and gilded frame with a gilded slip.

Bruno Amadio (9 November 1911 - 22 September 1981), popularly known as Bragolin, and also known as Franchot Seville, Angelo Bragolin, and Giovanni Bragolin, was the creator of the group of paintings known as Crying Boys. The paintings feature a variety of tearful children looking morosely straight ahead. They are sometimes called "Gypsy boys" although there is nothing specifically linking them to the Romani people.
While little is known about Bragolin, it is confirmed thathe was an academically trained painter, working in post-war Venice as painter and restorer, producing the Crying Boy pictures for tourists. At least 65 such paintings were made under the name Bragolin.
