Finely presented in an early 20th Century carved wood frame with gilt slip and cream card mount. Signed verso.
On wove.In remarkably fine condition for a picture of this age. Only very light even surface discolouration to the wove paper. The frame has some light wear and a fine patina.

Sophia Stansbury was an early 19th Century watercolourist with a remarkably dynamic approach to form and palette, far ahead of the prevalent styles of the period.
Her highly illustrative naive style, and almost theatrical settings have retained almost all of their colour, owing to exemplary storage conditions for the last two centuries. Her work includes classical studies, portrait scenes, and English landscapes.
