Description
A striking chromolithograph of the finely dressed Horatio Herbert Kitchener (1850-1916). 1st Earl Kitchener of Khartoum and of Broome. The print has been inscribed in plate and dated at the upper edge and inscribed in plate with the publisher details and title at the lower edge. The artist has signed "SPY" in plate. The lithograph has been presented in a simple wood frame with glazing.
On wove.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including heavy discolouration. There is a small stain and some tearing to the lower right quadrant. There is s small amount of debris trapped behind the glazing.

Artist Biography
Vincent Brooks, Day & Son was a major British lithographic firm most widely known for reproducing the weekly caricatures published in Vanity Fair magazine. The company was formed in 1867 when Vincent Brooks bought the name, good will and some of the property of Day & Son Ltd, which had gone into liquidation that year. The firm reproduced artwork and illustrations and went on to print many of the iconic London Underground posters of the twenties and thirties before being wound up in 1940.
Sir Leslie Matthew Ward (21 November 1851 – 15 May 1922) was a British portrait artist and caricaturist who over four decades painted 1,325 portraits which were regularly published by Vanity Fair, under the pseudonyms "Spy" and "Drawl".
