Description

A pretty botanical oil on board showing a white rambling rector rose bush in dappled sunlight. The artist has used an interesting scraffito technique to create texture in the shadowy depths of the bushes. The artist has inscribed to the lower right and initialed to the lower left. The painting has been presented in a brushed gilt effect frame with green gesso, glazing and a mauve card mount with white inner window.

The painting is accompanied by a signed and dedicated hardback copy of Simon Parke's book "Summer Places" with original dust jacket.

Artist Biography

Simon Parkes was born in Crowthorne, England and grew up in Wellington College where his father was a teacher. He opened an art conservation studio in New York in 1980 which he maintains to this day. Parkes began painting in the early 1990s and has had frequent exhibitions at W.M. Brady & Co. in New York, in addition to shows in Long Island and Palm Beach. In addition to his favorite subjects of Long Island and New England, Parkes has painted in Europe, North Africa, the Caribbean and Central America. The artist lives in New York City, East Hampton, and Swan's Island, Maine.
