Two figures trek across an expansive landscape in this atmospheric work by German artist Simon Hohenegger (1898–1990). An overcast sky dominates the composition, its overlaid tones of blue and grey rendered with bold, expressive brushstrokes. Areas of subtle impasto lend depth and texture to the work, while the muted ochre, brown, and earthy tones that make up the foreground contribute to the moody atmosphere. Signed and inscribed "Dachau" to the lower right. Beautifully presented in an ornate silver frame. On board.
Condition
The artwork is in very good condition. Inspection under UV light reveals no apparent restoration. Scratches and scuffs to the frame.
