Artist Biography

Born in Paris on October 7, 1913, to an Austrian tinsmith father and an Algerian mother who wove tapestries, Simon Goldberg began his formal artistic training at 13, under Elysée Cavaillon, a former member of the Bande à Schnegg. There he studied drawing and sculpture before apprenticing with Louis Rueff in 1927 to master the craft of wood carving. In 1931, Goldberg continued his education at the École des Arts Appliqués, where he honed his skills in modelling under Robert Wlérick and drawing under Charles Malfray.
