Description

An accomplished gouache painting with watercolour by the artist Sidney Homer. The scene depicts the Wellington clock tower, a structure that stands on the seafront at Swanage in Dorset, England. Signed to the lower right-hand corner. The title is inscribed on the reverse. There is a partially torn artist's label on the reverse. On watercolour paper.

Condition

Painting in fine condition. Minor marks to the mount and small scuffs to the frame.

Artist Biography

Painter, who had art training at the Birmingham School of Art, where Bernard Fleetwood Walker was his main teacher during the early 1930's. It was about this time that he commenced showing his work and he exhibited at the Royal Watercolour Society, RI and at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, of which he was a member for many years. He also worked in Advertising as both a graphic artist and illustrator and his work can be found in both public and private collections including the Dudley Art Gallery.
