German artist Sepp Vees (1908-1989) described himself as an "expressive Impressionist." He studied at the Kassel Academy of Fine Arts and later at the Stuttgart Academy of Fine Arts. In 1929, Vees was a founding member of the Stuttgart New Secession group of artists, and participated in two of the group's three major exhibitions 1931 and 1932. Vees moved to Flacht, a small village south of Stuttgart, in 1933 following the Nazi restriction of the art scene. He served as a soldier in the Second World War, before returning to Flacht. He became a member of the Free Group Stuttgart in 1952, and was a founding member of the Sindelfingen Secession in 1958.
