An exquisite contemporary watercolour from well listed artist Rowena Elizabeth Bush of a river landscape in South Africa, with a mountain range seen in the distance. Wonderfully depicted by the artist, this scene captures the South African landscape with its expressive, quick marks and washes of colour. Bush was an honorary fellow of the watercolour society of South Africa. Inscribed on an old label to the reverse. Well presented in a modern gilt effect frame. Signed. On wove.

Both the painting and frame are in excellent condition.

Artist Biography

Rowena Elizabeth Bush was born in Ceylon (modern day Sri Lanka) in 1917. Her father was a tea planter and at the age of 7 she returned with her family to England. At the age of 16, she left school and attended Art School in Bristol, moving onto the London School of Interior design three years later. After moving to Tanzania, in the late 1930's, Bush fled to Kenya just before the outbreak of WWII, and after three years, she left Kenya to get married. Bush retired to Durban, South Africa with her husband, where she remained until her death in 1998.
