Description

Ross Abrams - Original 1968 Etching. Limited Edition Coloured Print by the artist, Ross Abrams (1920-2006). Signed and dated and inscribed. Condition is typical for a picture of this age including some minor discolouration.

In May 2006, Ross Abrams (1920-2006) slipped and fell while walking along the path that leads down to the sea from his adopted home village of Deià. It marked the end of a long and productive life, more than half of which he spent in Mallorca, creating a diverse and extensive body of work, as well as raising three children together with his artist wife, Mary Tatum. Whereas Mary painted on canvas in a bold and colourful style, Ross preferred to create on a smaller scale, producing primarily prints employing woodcut, silk screen, and etching techniques. He was a meticulous craftsman with an unerring eye for form and perspective. His work, while being very attentive to detail, has at times an almost Zen-like simplicity: there is more there than what he has brought to visible life with strokes of the brush or pencil. Such an effect can only be achieved through innate talent combined with acquired skills and years of experience.
