A spectacular and well-executed landscape by Reverend Robert Woodley-Brown (act. 1840-1860). A solitary figure walks towards a quaint cottage whilst a rugged track winds into the distance towards mountains, and patchwork fields are illuminated by a magnificent sunset. Inscribed with the artist's name and dated 1851 on the reverse. Well presented in an ornate gilt-effect frame. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age, including some discolouration and craquelure. The artwork has undergone previous restoration, including relining and overpainting. Faint scratch to the upper left. Light wear to the frame.
