Artist Biography
Robert Walker Macbeth (1848-1910) was a painter and engraver born in Glasgow. He was the son of painter Norman Macbeth. He was educated at Edinburgh, in Friedrichsdorf, Germany, and the Royal Society of Arts Schools. He painted landscapes and rustic scenes as well as being one of the first illustrators on The Graphic. A fine etcher, Macbeth was elected a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers when the Society was founded. Many of his landscapes were painted in Lincolnshire and in the West Country, although he spent much of his life in London. He exhibited seventy pictures at the Royal Academy among which were several hunting scenes. Examples of his work are in the collection of the Tate Gallery and Adelaide Art Gallery.
