A charming depicting of a gentleman in his study. He stands before a grand desk with a painting hanging above, partially illuminated by the lamp light. The man holds a cigar in one and and his breast pocket in another. Signed in graphite to the lower right. On paper.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration.

Artist Biography
Robert Walker Macbeth RA (1848-1910) was a painter and engraver born in Glasgow in 1848. He was the son of painter Norman Macbeth and brother of Henry Macbeth-Raeburn. Macbeth was educated at Edinburgh, in Friedrichsdorf, Germany, and the RSA Schools. He painted landscapes and rustic scenes as well as being one of the first illustrators on The Graphic. A fine etcher, Macbeth was elected RE when the Society was founded. Many of his landscapes were painted in Lincolnshire and in the West Country, although he spent much of his life in London. He exhibited seventy pictures at the RA among which were several hunting scenes. He was elected RE in 1880, RI, 1882, ROI, 1893, RWS, 1901, and RA, 1903. Examples of his work are in the collection of the Tate Gallery and in Adelaide Art Gallery.
