A charming early 20th Century watercolour scene showing the beach at Eastcliffe, viewed from the public gardens. The artist has signed to the reverse of the wove. The painting has been presented in a simple gilt frame with a wash-line mount. There is a label at the reverse with the artist's name, location and the provenance (purchased from the artist's family). On wove.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and minor foxing.

Artist Biography
Watercolourist, mostly of landscape subjects. Studied at Hornsey College of Art (where he met his future wife, Effie) and at the Slade School of Fine Art. He lived in Brentwood Essex. Exhibited at the Royal Academy, New English Art Club, Grosvenor Gallery, 1922, and later at the Parkin Gallery. A retrospective exhibition was held at the Anthony Forescue Gallery in 1975. His work is held in the V&A Museum, Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, as well as the British Museum. His daughter was the watercolourist Jean Alexander (1911-1994).
