A fine hand-coloured aquatint with etching by Richard Gilson Reeve (1803-1889) after James Pollard (1792-1867). The title is inscribed within the plate lines to the lower margin: 'The Mail Coach in a Thunderstorm on Newmarket Heath'. Engraver's name and date also inscribed within plate lines.
On wove.The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration, small surface marks and creasing. There is a 2 cm tear to the upper margin and other small repaired tears to the lower and left-hand margins.
