Reverend C.E. Leighton Thomson - Original 1982 Oil. A view of the fishing town of Camara de Lobos in Madeira, with an artist painting in the foreground, painted in February 1982. There is an areas of textured paint to the lower right foreground. Inscribed with location, date and artist's name on the reverse. Inscribed and dated on the reverse.On canvas on stretchers. Condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. and minor surface dirt. There is a very small dent in the canvas to the upper left corner, with a tiny surface crack. The Reverend Leighton Thomson, TD, FRGS, was born in South China. His father was American and his mother English. His first schooling was in British Columbia and he was educated at Shrewsbury School and Pembroke College, Oxford, where he took an honours degree in geography. As a young clergyman he served as Assistant Chaplain in Alexandria, Egypt for three years until 1950 when he returned to serve at Chelsea Old Church for 42 years. He left his book “The Rebuilding of Chelsea Old Church” published in 1992. Leighton was an active committee member of the Egypt Diocesan Association (EDA)Size
