Artist Biography

'Vues d'Optique' or 'Perspective Views' became immensely popular across England and Europe during the eighteenth century. These prints were specifically designed to create a striking illusion of depth when viewed through a zograscope or perspective glass, which used a series of reflecting mirrors to enhance the illusion of depth in the print, creating a "view" for the onlooker. In their heyday they were a technical revolution; they could be seen in almost every fashionable drawing room, and were enjoyed by the poorer classes in print shops or at travelling fairs.
