Reginald William Gammon (1894-1997) was a painter and illustrator, born in Petersfield, Hampshire. Following an apprenticeship in 1911 to a black and white illustrator Frank Patterson, his professional career began in 1918, following war service. He contributed illustrations to Punch and specialised in country topics for Cyclists Touring Club Gazette from 1924 for some sixty years. He joined the News Chronicle in 1930 and ran his own feature The Week in the Country. During WWII, he moved with his family to the Llanthony Valley in the Black Mountains of Wales where his neighbour was Eric Gill. In 1966 he was elected RWA and ROI, and in 1985 a retrospective was held at the Royal West of England Academy. His centenary exhibition was held at the New Grafton Gallery, Barnes, London in June 1994, his second of the year, the earlier one being held at the RWA. This was his first London solo exhibition. His work is in the collections of Newport Art Gallery, Gwent, Manchester City Art Gallery, the University of Bath and WAC, he also exhibited at the RA, RI and NEAC. A memorial exhibition was held at New Grafton Gallery, Barnes, London, in 1999 and a posthumous exhibition was held in 2002 at the Alpha House Gallery in Sherborne, Dorset.
