Ray Evans was born in Hale, Cheshire in 1920. He studied at the Institute di Belle Arti, Florence in 1945-46, Manchester College of Art in 1946-48 and Heatherley’s School of Fine Art in 1948-50 under Ian Macnab. Among various teaching posts was Southampton College of Art in 1956-66.
Ray Evans undertook commissions for major companies such as British Petroleum, Eagle Star, banks and government. He had many solo exhibitions included Thackeray, Furneaux and Canaletto Galleries, Winchester Art Gallery and Ashbarn in Petersfield. He also exhibited at the Royal Academy. The National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth, Southampton Education Authority and Winchester Gallery hold his work.
