A beautiful early 19th-century neoclassical engraving entitled "Ora Prima di Notte" (First Hour of Night), one from a series of twelve engravings known as Le Ore del Giorno e della Notte (The Hours of the Day and Night), after Raphael. Here the owl, the bird of night and Minerva, is depicted with the setting radiant sun in the sky, confirming the transition into evening. The decorative border below shows nocturnal animals joining the figure. Eugène Bourgeois executed the preliminary work on the print, which was later finished by Nicolas Thomas. On paper.
Condition
The artwork exhibits signs of wear consistent with age. Light foxing and various stains to the paper. Several small border tears have been repaired verso. Overall, the print is in good condition.
