This stunning mid-century landscape depicts the sleepy Dorset village of Sturminster Marshall with the River Stour running through it. The artist has used expressive brushwork to capture the long grass of the summer meadow and the fast-running water of the river beyond. Wonderfully presented in a vintage effect wood frame. Signed and dated to the lower left. Inscribed with the title and date to the reverse. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
The picture is in remarkably fine condition for a painting of its age. There are a few small flecks of paint loss at the lower right corner but the paint surface is stable. Inspection under UV light shows no sign of restoration. Minor scuffs to the frame.
