Description

A delicate 19th century conchological illustration originally published by R. Akerman in 1820. Well presented in an antique frame. On paper.

Condition

Light discolouration to the paper. Overall the artwork is in very good condition for its age. Light debris behind the glass. Imperfections to the antique glass. Some wear to the frame including scuffs, chips and indentations.

Artist Biography

Rudolph Ackermann (1764-1834) was a prominent Anglo-German publisher known for his high-quality illustrated books and repository of arts. Often using anonymous company artists for his illustrations, Ackermann was one of the pioneers of modern publishing methods, developing an international distribution network for his publications while building up significant commercial interests around the world. 'Ackermann's Repository of Arts' was an illustrated British periodical published from 1809 to 1829 that gained significant influence on British fashion, architecture and literature.
