Miniature painter Pierre-Noel Violet (1749-1819) was born in Flanders, but worked in Lille and then Paris. He left Paris during the French Revolution, but not before etching portraits of some of the members of the National Assembly in 1789. He then moved to London, where he exhibited eleven miniatures at the Royal Academy in 1790, including a portrait of Marie-Antoinette.
