Description

A charming nineteenth-century portrait of the children of the Hay family by the distinguished Scottish painter Robert Thorburn (1818–1885) in graphite and watercolour. The painting depicts the children of Sir Adam Hay, 7th Baronet of Smithfield and Haystoun, and Member of Parliament for Lanark Burghs from 1826 to 1830. The four children are identified on a label affixed to the reverse as Louisa Grace, Dorothea, Henrietta, and Mary. The work is signed to the lower right and is presented in a handsome gilt frame. On paper.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age, including discolouration and light foxing to the paper. Scuffs and scratches to the frame. Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age.
