Description
This realistic oil captures the vibrant atmosphere of a street in Ghent, Belgium. The composition is dominated by a majestic clock tower, surrounded by charming architecture and bustling street life. Soft, muted colours create a sense of warmth, while loose brushstrokes convey the energy of the scene. The artist masterfully balances architectural detail with the lively depiction of townspeople, offering viewers a captivating glimpse into a bygone era. The oil has been well presented in a gilt-effect frame with elaborate c-scrolling and acanthus ornamentation. Signed by the artist to the lower right. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
Overall in very good condition for a picture of this age. There is some craquelure to the surface of the painting. Inspection under UV light reveals some previous restoration to the composition. The ornate frame is in excellent condition.
