Pierre Comba was a French painter who was renowned for his military studies, particularly ones depicting the Chasseurs Alpin, an elite mountain infantry force of the French army with whom he travelled with during the First World War.
In early life he worked for some time as an official army painter before settling and marrying in Nice in 1888. He continued to paint military scenes, becoming more affiliated with the mountain troops through his work. He joined the society of mountain painters in 1903. He went back to paint for the military in 1914.
