Painter and sculptor born at Blackwell, near Darlington. He was artistically educated at Nottingham School of Art (now Nottingham Trent University), 1957-1958 where he studied drawing, art history and silversmithing. His dramatic landscapes are often woven with allegory and based on a lifetime's exploration of Britain's coastal areas. He then relocated to London and later to Cornwall where he lived from 1965-1970. In 1972 he held a show of landscape paintings from the Lake district at the prestigious Piccadilly Gallery in London.
Liddle has also shown his work at the Royal Academy summer exhibition, The Midland Group of Artists, Nottingham Castle Museum and Art Gallery, Arts Council of Great Britain touring shows, Salford City Art Gallery, Hesketh Hubbard Art Society, Federation of British Artists at the Mall Galleries, New English Art Club, South London Art Group, Free Painters & Sculptors, Leicester Galleries, Drian Gallery, Penwith Society of Arts, Waddington Galleries in both Montreal and Toronto, Lake Artists Society, Penrith Museum and Art Gallery and has been a regular exhibitor with the Newlyn Society of Artists and Penwith Society of Arts.
Examples of his work are in the collections of Darlington Art Gallery and the Atkinson Art Gallery, Leicestershire County Council, Leeds Metropolitan University, Surrey County Council; Kent County Council, West Yorkshire County Council, North Yorkshire County Council, Nuffield Foundation, Gulbenkian Foundation and British Petroleum.
