Maritime artist Peter Leath was born in 1935 on the Isle of Wight. Leath's passion for boats and the sea was obvious from a very young age, despite not having come from a boating background. After leaving school, Peter embarked on a number of odd jobs in a quest to find his true calling, from brick-laying, to forestry and several years as a fisherman. Peter also lived for several years in China after he joined the Royal Air Force.
In 1972 Peter began to paint, and was encouraged by his wife to pursue his passion. He held a one man exhibition at the public library in Ryde on the Isle of Wight. Much to his surprise, the paintings flew out the door with every single work sold in just six days. Peter enjoyed a successful artistic career until a stroke caused him to give up painting in 2003.
