Description

An impressionistic watercolour landscape depicting the River Mole near Box Hill in Surrey. Presented glazed in a white mount with a pale blue border and wooden frame. Monogrammed and dated to the lower-right corner. Artist's label on the verso which includes the artist's name and the title of the painting. On watercolour paper.

Condition

There is some discolouration, including to the edges of the mount. Some slight marks to the frame. Overall in good condition.

Artist Biography

Known primarily for his public career as a distinguished civil servant, Sir Patrick Nairne was also an accomplished water-colourist and a member of the Oxford Art Society (OAS). Sir Patrick was educated at Radley College and later a member of the school’s governing body. His artworks, painted en plein air, depict scenes from his travels across the UK and Europe.
