An original oil painting by the prolific and well collected Württemberg soldier and battle painter, Otto von Faber Du Faur (1828-1901). Entitled ' Legionare'. Presented in a modern gilt effect frame with additional label verso. Monogrammed to the lower right and dated, 1876. On board.Condition
Slight movement to the painting in its gilt effect frame. The overall condition of the artwork is very good.

Artist Biography
Otto von Faber du Faur was born in 1828, in Ludwigsburg, Germany. He was the son of a military painter. Otto served in the army and left the service in 1866, but attended the 1870 Prussian War as an 'artistic observer'. Otto painted major historical scenes including the Napoleonic Wars. In 1878, Otto directed a life size equestrian portrait of the Crown Prince of Germany. Otto von Faber du Faur died in 1901, in Munich, Germany. His works are kept at the Luxembourg Museum and the Neue Pinakothek in Munich.
