Artist Biography
Alphonse Charles Chigot (1824-1917) was a French painter of military scenes. Formerly a soldier in the French army, his work was informed by genuine experience on the battlefield. Chigot saw action in the first Franco-Moroccan War of 1844 and served until 1849. He then entered the Académie de Valenciennes to study art in 1853.
