A very finely painted watercolour study of a well-dressed woman. She wears a lace cap adorned with ribbon and broderie anglaise typical of the early 19th century. Although we have no information on this mysterious sitter we can deduce that she may be unmarried or a widower but nevertheless a woman of some means. The table to her side is adorned with trinkets and symbols including a large coffee pot, chine tea cup, log book, keys, ink pot and quill. A loving dog rests his head in her lap and in the far right corner, her slippers can be seen poking into the scene - a delightful snippet of this sitter's home life. The painting has been presented in a very fine 19th Century French Rococo Revival frame. The frame is finished with a modern oval mount. On watercolour paper.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and foxing. Overall the frame is in very good condition however there are some cracks to the moulding that appear to be stable. The frame appears to have been re-gilded at some point and some of the moulding repaired.
