A fine original 1811 landscape view in oil, entitled 'A View from a Field near Chichester, with Chichester spire in the distance'. The artist has carefully constructed this charming view, in a typical style of the period. Lighting the scene from the right in a Romantic manner, the composition has an air of rural calm. Also inscribed to the reverse of the canvas 'Finished June 29 1811'. Inscribed and dated on the reverse.On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and surface craquelure. There is a canvas repair to the upper right corner that has been restored. There are also surface creases from the stretchers and some surface abrasion, mainly to the right side. In good condition overall.
