Description

A fine watercolour painting with graphite by the British artist Olwen Jones. The scene depicts a view of a conservatory surrounded by delicate flowers. Signed to the lower right-hand corner. There are two labels on the reverse inscribed with the artist's name and title. Well-presented in a double card mount and in a light grey wooden frame, as shown. On watercolour paper.

Painting in fine condition. Small marks to the mount and minor scuffs to the frame.

Artist Biography

Painter and printmaker, born in London of Welsh parents, she trained at the Harrow College of Art, 1960-65 and the Royal Academy Schools, 1965-68. Her great enthusiasm and talent for drawing earned her two RA silver medals, as well as two David Murray landscape scholarships. She went on to teach at Harrow School of Art and Putney School of Art, but now concentrates on her paintings and printmaking. These are notably of interiors, gardens and conservatory scenes, in which she examines the relationship of natural forms and the formal shapes of the man-made environment. She was elected an Associate of the Royal Watercolour Society in 1989 and a full Member in 1992 and is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers. She is married to the painter Charles Bartlett himself a former President of the RWS of she is also a VP. Jones has exhibited at the RA, Barbican Art Gallery, London, Bury St. Edmunds Art Gallery and held solo exhibitions at Zaydler Gallery, London, Bohun Gallery, Henley-on-Thames, John Russell Gallery, Ipswich, Chappel Galleries, Essex, Coach House Gallery, Guernsey, the Minories, Colchester, Dudley Museum and Art and Oldham Art Gallery.

Her work is the public collections of Bolton Art Gallery, Bradford Art Gallery, Colchester and Ipswich Museum Service, DoE, Dudley Museum and Art Gallery, GAC, Graves Art Gallery, Museum of London, NMW, Norwich Castle Museum, Oldham Art Gallery, Plymouth Art Gallery, Reading Art Gallery, Towner Art Gallery, Salford Art Gallery and the University of Wales, Aberystwyth .
