Norman Clifford Jaques

Norman Jacques was born, studied and later taught in Manchester. He attended the Manchester College of Art and Technology from 1937 until 1942. Specialising in printmaking, in particular etchings, lithographs and wood engravings, he later worked at Manchester Polytechnic where he became Senior Lecturer in the Printmaking Department from 1950 until 1982.

He exhibited in Edinburgh, London and Manchester, and as far afield as Nebraska and Cleveland in the USA. His work is in the collections of the V&A, Manchester Art Gallery and Nebraska University. Among many other achievements, including the Procter Award and the Giles Bequest Award in block printing from the V&A, he was a member and president of both the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts and The Manchester Art Club. He died aged 92 in 2014.
