An early lithograph print by the well collected artist Norman Clifford Jaques (1922-2014). The scene depicts a painterly view of the village of Moelfre, on the north-east coast of Anglesey. The print is signed and annotated in graphite to the lower edge. Editioned 8/15. On paper.

A stylish series of modern silkscreens by the well known British artist and master printmaker Norman Jaques. With provenance from the artist’s studio, this selection of limited edition works and artist proofs perfectly showcases Jaques unique style and playful approach to colour. A blend of textual and graphic elements have been used in a painterly manner to offer each scene a wonderful spontaneous feel. Most of the works in this collection have been signed by the artist and date from the early 1970's.

Artist Biography

Norman Jacques was born, studied and later taught in Manchester. He attended the Manchester College of Art and Technology from 1937 until 1942. Specialising in printmaking, in particular etchings, lithographs and wood engravings, he later worked at Manchester Polytechnic where he became Senior Lecturer in the Printmaking Department from 1950 until 1982.

He exhibited in Edinburgh, London and Manchester, and as far afield as Nebraska and Cleveland in the USA. His work is in the collections of the V&A, Manchester Art Gallery and Nebraska University. Among many other achievements, including the Procter Award and the Giles Bequest Award in block printing from the V&A, he was a member and president of both the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts and The Manchester Art Club. He died aged 92 in 2014.
