Description

This print commemorates Queen Victoria's and Prince Albert's visit to France in September 1843, said to be the first by a British monarch since Henry VIII had attended the Field of the Cloth of Gold in 1520 (!) They were received on September 5 at Château d'Eu in Normandy by King Louis Philippe and Queen Marie Amelie. The French monarchs are accompanied by their eldest daughter Louise D'Orléans, and her husband Leopold I, King of the Belgians (Victoria's uncle on her mother's side). The artist has signed in plate and the publisher's details are inscribed along the lower edge. On wove laid to card.

Condition

There is some discolouration and dirtying to the wove, particularly around the outer edges. The lithograph has been cropped and the original plate lines have been removed. There are several tears around the edge of the paper.
