Neil Forster (1939-2016) was an animal paint, muralist and portrait artist born in Calcutta (now Kolkata), India the son of an English tea planter. By 1945 Forster's family had moved back to England, settling in Sussex. After education at Bradfield College in Sussex, he won a scholarship to the Byam Shaw School of Art but his art education was curtailed by a serious road accident. He took up painting full-time in the mid-1960's earning extra money by tending bar and travelling and working at odd jobs across France, Spain and Ireland. He was commissioned to paint hawks, horses and camels of members of the Kuwaiti royal family and gave lessons to HRH Prince Charles and latterly to Camilla Parker Bowles. Forster shunned the exhibiting limelight and only showed occasionally with Petley Fine Art in London. His exhibitions included a solo show at Chris Beetles Gallery in 1990.
