This 19th century landscape depicts an idyllic view of the English countryside with thatched cottages, a mother and child and a shepherd herding his flock through the rural hamlet. Each aspect is depicted with considered brushstrokes and an understanding of tone and colour. Signed, dated and incribed on the reverse. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and areas of craquelure. Minor areas of paint loss to the top edge of the canvas. Slight sagging of the canvas to the lower left. The canvas has been finished with a shiny varnish.
